Net Metering (Solar)

Infographic explaining how solar panels work. Sunlight strikes rooftop solar panels, generating DC electricity. An inverter converts the DC electricity to AC electricity, which powers the home. Any excess electricity flows back to the electric grid, while electricity is drawn from the grid when the solar panels are not producing enough power. What is “net metering”? Net metering allows members who generate their own electricity from solar power to sell the electricity they aren’t using back to Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative (SWAECC). Simply put, net metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for the excess electricity they generate.

If you are considering installing solar power, please read our policy, linked below. Be sure to thoroughly research all aspects of purchasing solar before making a commitment. If you have any questions, we’re here to help.
